A question I often receive is which is the best antivirus to choose. In the past, my choice would have been Norton antivirus or Mcafee. However, both companies starting adding features to their programs that made each new version more secure, but at the same time more taxing on the computer. The benefits of the extra features was more than compensated (in a negative way) by the slowness of the system.

For general home or small business use, I recommend going with the built in Windows Firewall, and a single purpose, “low footprint” security product, like ESET’s NOD32 antivirus. The product costs $39.95 for one year or $58.99 for 2 years. It works, it’s secure and it’s light on CPU usage.
